Community Work Days
FFCC volunteers provide just the right amount of love, care, labor, and skill to help neighbors throughout San Diego tackle the big and small tasks needed around the house or neighborhood. We will post opportunities as they are scheduled, but feel free to contact us via the volunteer link for more information.
Community Food Distribution
On the 3rd and 4th Thursday of each month 5-7:30pm, teams of volunteers gather at three locations in Racho Penasquitos and Poway to distribute food and provide care for local families in need. Through strong relationships with local police, apartment managers, and schools, families are identified who need food and support. Groceries are bagged and distributed as well as other community services and resources. By 7:30, all is wrapping up and you can rest assured that you have made a huge impact in the lives of your local neighbors in need. This is a great activity for families to participate in together. There are also some day time volunteer opportunities throughout the month. Please visit the Community Care website or contact Shell Cowper-Smith at scs4000@gmail.com to get involved.
Backyard Produce and Community Garden Projects
Many families in our area north of San Diego are struggling to put food on the table. Fresh produce is often too expensive for these families to purchase; however, many families in the community have citrus trees and fruit/vegetable gardens that produce excess food. The Backyard Produce and Community Garden Projects offer community members an opportunity to share backyard produce with families in need. To learn more about how you can partner with FFCC in these efforts, contact Becky Palenske (bpalenske@san.rr.com)
