Local & Global Impact
Fighting hunger both here in San Diego County and across the world is a major priority of FFCC. Through November 2010, we have held 22 food packaging events in partnership with groups across the local San Diego community. As of August 2011, FFCC volunteers and contributors have purchased, packaged, and shipped over 3.3 million meals to Tanzania, Africa, 1.2 million meals to Haiti, 300,000 meals to Mexico, 100,000 to Japan, and also distributed 600,000 meals to local families in need.
Unlike much of the food distributed to the hungry in third world countries, the Kids Care meals assembled by FFCC actually work to help reverse the effects of starvation. The secret is a revolutionary food package that has been developed by some of the world's leading food scientists at Cargill, Pillsbury, General Mills, and ADM. This one package provides six nutritionally-complete servings to feed starving children around the world as well as the hungry here at home - and all for pennies a day.
Food packaging events are held every few months at the Poway Dream Dinners and at other volunteer locations countywide. Join us by looking for the online registration for the next event and volunteer for a 1-2 hour time slot or Donate toward the purchase of the rice, protein, vitamins, and vegetables that go into each meal or towards the extraordinary shipping expenses. The time and money you spend will be rewarding for you and for those you help around the world!
