Student Support Projects
Children's and Community Center (Singida) & Gunda Secondary School

Things that we often take for granted in the US can have an enormous impact on the students in Tanzania. Initiatives like gathering school supplies and making functional backpacks for the students are currently underway.


School Supplies		Backpacks
Through community donations, FFCC has shipped thousands of pencils, pens, notebook paper and a variety of school supplies to Tanzania. These supplies are distributed to the homeless children at the Children's and Community Center in Singida and to students at Gunda School in Nkungi. How can you help? Your financial donation to purchase supplies or your donation of new school supplies is a constant need. We also need volunteers who will help sort and package the donations so they can be easily distributed once delivered to Tanzania. If you can help through finances, donation of supplies, or help sort and package, please contact Phil Harris at philffcc@san.rr.com		While working in Tanzania with the students from Gunda Secondary School, it was observed that most of the students did not have anything to carry their school & personal belongings in. A few students had drawstring backpacks. This inspired the idea to provide all the students at Gunda with such a backpack and to fill it with much needed school supplies. In the spring of 2009, eighty to ninety backpacks were shipped to Tanzania. There are approximately 700 students at Gunda Secondary School so we still have a ways to go to provide one for each student. How can you help? The cost for the materials to sew one drawstring backpack is $10. With the donation of fabric, cord, or other necessary materials the cost would decrease. If you are interested in participating with the sewing of these backpacks (very simple pattern) or donating towards the cost of a backpack, please contact Jo Ann Shaw at ffccjojo@pacbell.net.
