"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

The Backyard Produce Project

FFCC has been partnering since 2010 with The Backyard Produce Project (www.backyard-produce-project.wikispaces.com) to provide fresh locally grown produce to families in need. This group is made up of volunteers who are tending vegetable gardens and fruit trees on land provided by Sunshine Care Assisted Living in Poway. There are also many volunteers picking fruit from neighbors trees which have more than they need. Several local school garden projects have joined the cause to donate their harvest.

New "pickers" and drivers are always welcome to keep this wonderful project rolling along, and delivering the harvest to local destinations. Contact Becky Palenske for more information- ffccsdlocal@gmail.com

Food Rescue Sponsored by

Trader Joe's has been contributing to FFCC's Food Distribution Outreaches for years. They are great partners. Volunteers are needed to help pick up food from Trader Joe's on Wednesday's at 7:30 p.m. Larger vehicles would be helpful. Becky can provide more details if interested. ffccsdlocal@gmail.com

'Free Farmers Market' Sponsored by

FFCC collects donations that come through partnerships with stores and vendors and we deliver them to apartment complexes and schools in Poway, Rancho Bernardo, and 4S Ranch.  This effort takes place on Mondays & Thursdays for about 2 hours in the morning.

Ways you can help- the tasks include picking up donations from the stores and vendors and driving them to the distribution points.  You can also help set up and distribute the produce to the families in need that come to our 'market'.  This is a great way for families to serve our community together.

Community Care Night

This special evening has grown to two locations- Penasquitos Lutheran Church and Resurrection Community Church in Poway. Each month several churches and FFCC volunteers come together to provide a food 'shopping' experience for approximately 150 families.  There is also the opportunity for prayer for any families who desire it. The events are held on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m.

We need help with sorting the food items and setting up the food tables where the families will shop.  Volunteers are encouraged to interact with the families and help as needed.  This is a great family or small group activity for those that want to serve together.

Brookview Village Senior Outreach

Once a month, FFCC provides groceries, produce and a door to door delivery to about a dozen senior citizens living in this low-income complex in Poway.

Volunteers are needed near the end of the month on a Friday for food delivery and other tasks.

Food Pantry

FFCC has two nonperishable food pantries in partnership with Grace Point Church and Fairbanks Ridge Apartments. Several times a month, we need volunteer drivers to pick up and deliver food donations to or from these food pantries. We also occasionally need help with sorting and stocking the food.

***FFCC is in immediate need of an indoor space for our nonperishable food pantry.***

The space will be a storage food pantry only and not a place that will run distributions on-site.

We are hoping to find a spot by May 2017.  We will also be looking for volunteers at that time to help with the packing and moving.

We are looking for a space that could hold about 10 storage racks ( or less ) and a few tables for sorting with lighting and ground level accessibility for loading and unloading cars. Desired locations would be in 4S Ranch, Carmel Valley, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos or somewhere else very nearby.

If you know of a property owner who has a space to sublease for free, please contact Becky Palenske at ffccsdlocal@gmail.com or (858) 945-2492.

Thanksgiving Baskets

FFCC partners with individuals, families, businesses, churches, schools, scout troops and other organizations to provide Thanksgiving dinner to families in need. In 2016, we supported 872 families.

Families in need are identified through our community food distribution program, and also through schools and organizations through-out North County.

A suggested donation list is provided below for the non-perishable items and these along with gift cards for the perishable items allows the family to prepare their special holiday meal in their own home the way they like it best.
